Frequently Asked Questions

An SPF record is a DNS TXT record that lists all authorized IP addresses and servers permitted to send emails on behalf of your domain name. Receiving mail servers inspect SPF records to check for spoofed senders.

DMARC stands for Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance. It is an email authentication protocol that extends SPF and DKIM by instructing the receiving mailserver exactly how to handle failures (none, quarantine, or reject) and provides xml reports.

You must publish them as TXT records in your DNS zones console provided by your domain registrar (e.g. Cloudflare, Namecheap, GoDaddy).

Softfail instructs receivers to flag failing mail as spam but deliver it. Hardfail instructs receivers to block and drop the message immediately. Softfail is recommended for testing periods.

Propagation depends on the TTL (Time to Live) value set on the record, typically taking between 1 hour and 24 hours globally.

The rua email allows large mail providers like Google and Microsoft to send you structured XML summaries of all messages sent using your domain, identifying potential spoofing sources.
